BROOKLAND -- The Brookland City Council decided to purchase a new mosquito fogger Tuesday night.

The council decided on purchasing London Fog model for $6,750 from Adapco Solutions and Technology of West Monroe, La.

Brookland Mayor Joe McKeel showed aldermen different foggers ranging in price from $6,750-$7,995 to consider before they made their decision.

The machine was badly needed, he said.

"One machine blew a motor last week," McKeel told the council. "It's the cheapest price and I think it's the best."

McKeel also suggested allowing residents to pick up garlic and mineral oil to spray their own yards, adding that cities such as Bono are already doing so.

"You can spray a yard and they will leave that yard," he said. "It's a deterrent at least."
In other business, the council adopted an ordinance to amend the city's 1997 zoning regulations.

The ordinance said it was "deemed necessary to change and update the planning and zoning ordinances for the city of Brookland."

The zoning regulations were recommended by the Brookland Planning Commission on March 4, after a public hearing Feb. 4. The ordinance is effective immediately.

"Three copies of the zoning regulations are on file in the office of the city clerk-treasurer and are available for public inspection," the mayor read to the council.

Aldermen also passed an ordinance relating to subdivision regulations for Brookland. It includes "an introduction, definitions, procedural requirements, plat requirements, design requirements, construction plans and specifications and administration and enforcement," McKeel said.

Also, the council passed a resolution for an agreement between the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development and the city of Brookland for "approximately an additional $3,000" in grant funds to be added to the original grant for a sewer pump station on U.S. 49, McKeel said. The entire grant is for $68,806.
